John Hampden Grammar School

Welcome

JHGS is, simply put, an outstanding boys’ grammar school and one I feel enormously privileged to lead. The ethos, developed over many generations, is unique. It is based upon mutual respect, high expectations and support for one another. At JHGS we aim for excellence in everything we do, be it academic performance, sporting or cultural achievement or the way we develop leadership and team skills.  Exceptional standards, breadth, balance and self-confidence typify JHGS students.

  • Rhys, now 18

Having achieved A*A*A in my A-levels - Politics, English Literature and Economics - I am now studying law at the University College of London (UCL). I hope to complete my degree with first class honours, giving me the best possible chance to pursue my desired career as a solicitor and secure a training contract at a top international law firm. My experiences at JHGS have undoubtedly moulded my character, and my recent successes would not have been achievable without their constant academic and social support.

Studying: A-levels in chemistry, geography and Spanish

I have a particular interest in the way human and natural worlds interact so hope to study geography at Bristol University, possibly leading to a career in managing the Earth’s resources.

After 6 enjoyable years at JHGS I am very proud to represent the School as one of the senior prefects. Recent building works have helped improve what was already an excellent school.
