Stages in years 7-9
Six times a year every pupil will be given a stage in each of his subjects. These stages will be awarded based upon subject specific criteria, which are printed below this introduction.

Each subject has also developed criteria for literacy. Literacy refers to everyday communication including grammar, spelling and the spoken word. Competence and confidence in literacy is fundamental to all areas of learning; it increases opportunities in all aspects of life and lays the foundations for lifelong learning and work. Therefore pupils will not be able to achieve a stage any higher than the one they get in literacy.
Each year the numbers awarded for each stage will increase and gaining an ‘exceptional’ grade now will put you on track for an 8 or 9 at GCSE (the highest grades possible).
