Friends of JHGS

Welcome to Friends of John Hampden Grammar School (FoJHGS). We are a parent-led organisation that supports the school through fundraising, events and a second hand uniform shop. Our mission is to build a stronger community by bringing teachers, staff, pupils and parents closer together through our events and volunteering, while helping to raise funds for major initiatives e.g. expanding the school canteen and additional equipment. 

We are a registered charity and have a Committee of Parent Trustees who volunteer their time to run FoJHGS - managing finances, liaising with the school and providing additional support for school activities.

FUNDRAISING

FOJHGS supports the school through a variety of fundraising activities - from selling refreshments at school functions to running our own events and operating the second-hand uniform shop. The funds we raise are used to enrich the lives of the pupils at John Hampden. Through the generosity of parents, friends and family members we’re able to provide the additional extras that the school would otherwise be unable to afford.

Key initiatives 2025-26 

This year the school is embarking on the expansion of the canteen and dining room facilities. FoJHGS are pleased to support this initiative and will be donating a proportion of funds raised to help purchase vital equipment for the new facilities such as tables and chairs. 

Funds raised and donations 

FoJHGS has raised over £8,000 from second hand uniform sales over the past 3 years. We are pleased to announce that these funds will be used to provide: 

- New loudspeakers for the main hall 

- Outdoor basketball hoops 

- A gazebo for use at outdoor events 

A huge thank you to the parent volunteers who give their own time to run the second-hand uniform shop and uniform sales. Watch this space for photos once we’ve got the new equipment installed. 

Easyfundraising 

Easyfundraising is a simple way to raise funds for the school through your online shopping. It has raised over £4,700 to date. You can view our page here. We need more parents to set up an account and start shopping through Easyfundraising. Here’s how to get started: 

1. Visit Easyfundraising.org.uk or download their app.  

2. When you sign up for an account select John Hampden Grammar School Parents’ Association as the organisation you wish to donate to 

3. Do your online shopping through the Easyfundraising website or app 

4. The retailer pays a commission to Easyfundraising which is converted to a donation 

5. There is no cost to you

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP

The second-hand uniform shop is a fantastic resource for parents of growing boys! We aim to host a sale at least once a term and will notify you of upcoming dates on this page and via the school newsletter. Once a date has been confirmed it will also be listed in the school calendar. For more information about the second hand shop or to make an enquiry about an item in between sales visit here. 

Donating uniform 

You can donate uniform items at any time by dropping them off at the school reception. Pupils can also drop off donations on their way into school. Please ensure that donations are clean and suitable for resale. We need more donations of sports kit and blazers so please remember to donate once your son has grown out of them.

UPCOMING EVENTS

FoJHGS will be supporting the upcoming Autumn and Christmas concerts through the sale of refreshments. We look forward to meeting lots of parents at the concerts and supporting the boys on the night.

FoJHGS is open to everyone in our school community and we’d love for more people to get involved. You can volunteer to help at one event or get more involved if you have an idea or initiative that you’d like to get off the ground.
