Design Technology

Design and Technology students at JHGS are enthusiastic and confident when undertaking creative problem solving. They achieve this independent skill by following a curriculum that engages and inspires. Our students learn to become design literate and appreciate the value of working out different solutions to problems before selecting the optimum outcome. This important skill can be applied by students beyond the subject and outside of school. Students also learn to appreciate the need to minimise waste and the importance of using sustainable materials.

#BeMore Ambitious

We encourage our students to explore different ways of expressing themselves creatively through product design and engineering. These focus areas allow students with a broad range of interests to become actively involved with the subject.  By designing and making fully functional items through project work, students develop a solid foundation of useful skills. We promote the further use of these skills through independent work in lesson time and during supervised lunchtime and after school sessions.

Design and Technology provides a supportive environment which allows students to independently progress their ideas whilst receiving appropriate guidance to achieve their aspirations. Our students are confident, motivated learners who understand the balance between technical practice and knowledge valued by universities and employers.

#BeMore Involved

We are proud to have strong ties to the Furniture Makers' Company, continuing the long association between the school and this industry in High Wycombe.
