Chemistry
#BeMoreChemistry
We aim for our pupils to immerse themselves with gusto into the subject, appreciating and understanding how the subject works by fostering inquisitiveness and and how the Chemistry around them affects them in their everyday life and to encourage enthusiasm about Chemistry leading to continued study
#BeMoreAmbitious - We look to impart a love of Chemistry through using a wide range of practicals and harnessing the expert knowledge of our specialist staff to discuss and explore the bounds of the subject that stretch far beyond those required by exams. As a result, a large number of students pursue Chemistry at A level, and many of these go on to Higher Education to study degrees for which Chemistry is essential.
#BeMoreIndependent - We emphasise challenge and reflection as well as progressively developing problem-solving skills that will stand them in good stead when they leave school and stand on their own two feet
#BeMoreInvolved - Outside of the classroom, there are opportunities for pupils to participate and lead the popular science club, science newspaper, medicine society and there are challenge exams for those who wish to stretch themselves.
Overall, Chemistry is a demanding subject that will challenge and develop pupils into thinking scientists with a whole host of knowledge and skills to make a real difference.
In Science, #BeMore at JHGS means that science continues beyond the school gate. Science is about acquiring skills and interests for a lifetime.
Our pupils gain experience through a wide range of practicals. They also learn to analyse data critically and realise insights by linking and developing ideas across lessons, topics and subjects. Our pupils become immersed in how the world around them works, how it affects them and how they influence it in return. They are equipped to #BeMore knowledgeable, critical and problem-solving in their professional and wider lives
